Junior LACE F.O.O.D. Cooking Classes

The Junior LACE F.O.O.D. program, starting in January, is a cooking class series for 9-13 year olds who are excited about learning to cook and bake with local, seasonal ingredients. The class will meet weekly on Saturdays from 1-3 pm for five consecutive weeks.  The course begins with an introduction to basic nutrition and an exploration of what local, seasonal, organic and conventional food means, through taste testing, observation and discussion.  During the next two weeks we will learn about different methods of cooking and baking with ingredients sourced from local farms, and will, of course, eat our delicious creations. In the fourth week, we will hopefully have the opportunity to visit a local farm and harvest ingredients, or receive a visit from a local farmer who can deepen our understanding of agriculture and the origins of the food we eat. Over those four weeks, we will plan the menu for our final feast to be served to participants’ families in the last week.  In addition, participants will plan a presentation for their families on what they have learned throughout the course. Finally, we’ll celebrate our success together with a delicious meal shared with family and friends.

Enrollment is open until January 5th, and the first class session starts on January 15th and runs every Saturday through February 12th.
