Thank you for your understanding!

Visit to Cate Farm

7 Apr

For the final class of Junior F.O.O.D. we took a trip to Cate Farm in Plainfield, and had a great time seeing their little seedlings, and hanging out in the warm greenhouse! Sally showed us various methods of extending the season, and also how start seedlings (Cate Farm has a seedling sale starting in mid-May).  We also had the opportunity to visit Vermont Salumi, a recently started company, run by Sally’s son, Pete. We learned a lot about how to make sausage (maybe more than the kids would have like to know!), parts of the pig, and where Pete learned to make sausage in Italy.  It was definitely a learning experience, and smelled great as a plus!

Vote For LACE!

6 Apr

LACE has made a submission to the Skinny Pancake $500 Garden Grant competition and we could use your support! Our proposal is for the Junior F.O.O.D. Teen Garden Dinners, a program scheduled to start this summer. Local teens will help in our community garden plot with planting, maintenance and harvesting.  Using produce from the garden plot and our newly constructed raised beds in the front windows, the teens will plan a menu, and then cook a family style meal together.  Through this experience, teens will have the opportunity to learn kitchen skills and to think about and discuss critically issues that relate to food in our community. We anticipate this program to be a lot of fun, and a really engaging experience for local youth.  We appreciate your support!

Junior F.O.O.D. Round Two!

As we ended our very successful first session of Junior F.O.O.D. with a fantastic visit to Cate Farm (photos to come soon), we are planning for the next session, scheduled to start May 7th and run through June 4th, every Saturday from 10am-12pm. We are very excited to start cooking with more fresh foods, and have some guest chefs join us in the kitchen.  Please see the poster below for more information. The enrollment form and scholarship application can also be found below, or on our website.

This past Saturday, the Junior F.O.O.D. chefs did a fabulous job of preparing a portion of the community meal and sharing it with their family and friends! We made vegetable soup and apple cider doughnut holes! Yum!

Both the Wednesday and Friday Kids Cooking Up a Story are on for this week.  On Wednesday we will be reading about making apple pie and traveling around the world. On Friday we will have a special guest, Sofia, who will read about and cook with potatoes!
